In line with NHS regulation, a dental emergency is a condition that requires immediate assessment and treatment to avoid permanent damage. Some examples of dental emergencies include:
Swelling: Swelling in the face, cheek, or gum that is spreading, recurrent, or continuing. If the swelling is spreading down the neck, up to the eye, or along the floor of the mouth, it is particularly urgent.
Pain: Severe dental or facial pain that cannot be controlled by self-help advice, such as analgesia.
Bleeding: Uncontrollable bleeding, such as after an extraction.
Trauma: Trauma to the dental arches, such as a knocked-out tooth.
Mouth ulcers: Mouth ulcers that haven’t healed after two weeks.
If you have a dental emergency, you should contact the practice on 0208 998 3030 as soon as possible. In the event the practice is closed, you can call 111 London Dental Triage.
